How to view USDZ on Android and GLB on iPhone
In short: Android has no built-in USDZ viewer and iPhone AR Quick Look does not open GLB files, so the reliable fix is to have both formats of the same model. A web AR link that serves USDZ to iPhone and GLB to Android then works on both with one QR code.
What each phone opens
| Phone | Native AR viewer | Format it needs |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone, iPad | AR Quick Look | USDZ (also .reality) |
| Android with Google Play Services for AR | Scene Viewer | GLB or glTF |
| Any phone browser | model-viewer web component | GLB, plus USDZ for iPhone |
I have a USDZ and an Android phone
- Ask the sender for a GLB version, or convert the original image or model to GLB.
- If the USDZ came from a photo, run the photo through the JPG to GLB converter: you get the GLB and a new USDZ at the same size.
- Desktop 3D apps like Blender can import USD files if you need to convert a full 3D scene.
I have a GLB and an iPhone
- Open it through a web viewer built on model-viewer: it can create a USDZ on the fly for AR Quick Look.
- For a file you will share many times, make a real USDZ once so loading is fast and the scale is exact.
One link for both
Every jpgtousdz conversion comes with an AR viewer link and a QR code. The page detects the phone: iPhone gets the USDZ, Android gets the GLB. Send that link instead of the files and it opens in AR on both.
Try it now
Turn a photo into a real-size USDZ and GLB in a few seconds, or a video into a 3D model. Your first photo conversion is free.
JPG to GLB ConverterFAQ
Why can't Android open USDZ?
USDZ is Apple's AR format. Google's AR viewer on Android, Scene Viewer, uses glTF and GLB instead.
Do I need an app to view AR?
No. iPhone uses AR Quick Look and Android uses Scene Viewer, both built in. The phone must support ARKit or ARCore.
Does it work on a computer?
You can rotate the model in a desktop browser, but AR needs a phone or tablet camera. Scan the QR code with your phone.
